Fight camps in Full Swing

Well we are getting closer to Team Spartan's first fights of 2012 and what a busy year we have planned already. Fighters from the Team are on shows up and down the country from February onwards. This has ment that we have a constant Fight camp with Lots of the Team all at different stages of their camps.
What this means is that the fighters drills classes at 6pm every day have been extremely busy with us getting game plans and fighting techniques trained over and over again. This has helped many of the amateur Fighters up their game to the next level when they are practising and Training alongside the more experienced fighters. It can only mean good things for the Team as a whole as everyones game and skill set is going up the levels day by day.
All in it has been a very good start to the year for the Gym. We have had many new members join and lots have shown an active interest in becoming part of the fight team and are looking to enter some grappling competitions and have their first go at amateur rules fights. My predictions are that 2012 for Team Spartan is going to be a very exciting year for us all.......Watch This Space.......

Ste & Danny fights confirmed on Ultimate Impact Feb 25th
Fights have been confirmed now for Ste & Danny for Feb 25th on Ultimate Impact show. Contracts have arrived and sent back and Tickets are in the handsof both fighters. we have only been allocated around 50 due to it already being a sell out show. If you are wanting to come and support the Team on any of the shows we are on all you have to do is pop in the gym and ask who has the tickets for whatever show you are looking to go and see.
We are excited as Both Ste & Danny are taking a step up in standard of fighters for these matches. We are all looking forward to seeing them put their skills to the test again next month.
Both lads are now well into the swing of the fight camps and timing has been fantastic for them as well as others. This is due to Quite a lot of the Team also being matched for March 10th in Norwich on ECFF Show. What this has done is having 2 fight camps running alongside each other so we have 8 of the Team all getting ready at the same time. 2012 is set to be a very busy year for spartan mma fighters and this is our first show of the year and we intend on making a solid impact everywhere we go.

Callum Wins The Anglo Welsh Extreme fighting Belt
Spartan fighter Callum Griffiths Won his Title fight and now has a very nice new belt to add to his collection of tropheys.
He fought against the local favourite who had a strong voiced crowd behind him but that didnt stop Callum with his focus on winning the belt. The round started at a fast pace with some great wrestling shown by Callum. His opponent seemed the one keen to take the fight to the floor as Callum was happy dominating the clinch with good control and knee's to his opponents mid section. Once the fight hit the floor Callum kept his cool whilst his Opponent seemed agressive to strike to the body which in turn led him to make the mistake which Callum quickly locked on a triangle choke and tapped his opponent quickly.
Really pleased for Callum and he will look to defend the Belt on May 12th Before he makes his move to Semi pro.

10th December 2011 - Spartan mma finishes the year of fighting for more Belts in Wrexham
Spartan fighter Callum griffiths makes his very long awaited come back to the cage at amateur level where he is fighting for the Anglo welsh 66kg title in Wrexham.
we will update as soon as Callum has fought with the result.

12th November 2011 - Spartan mma has new belts on CC6
Spartan MMA had Yet more fighters compete on Cage Control 6 in Shrewsbury and The semi Pro debut of Mark Jarvis along side 2 of the regular Spartan fighters of Ste Molyneux and Dan Suter.
This outing saw Shane fighting a tough battle against a very much more experienced fighter altho at amateur level this was an exciting match where unfortunatlely shane lost via arm bar.
Mark Jarvis is known for his kickboxing and when he came to us interested in getting involved in MMA we welcomed him to learn the new sport. He has progressed very quickly through attending many classes and also the odd personal training one to one session with head coach Dug Wildman which has seen a good and quick improvement in Marks game. Mark opened his Debut fight in a fashion which took his opponent off guards as he went aggressive right from touching gloves. He left nothing to chance and in True Spartan style went out there to finish the fight and finish it quickly. He did so winning via head and arm triangle in the first round.
Ste Molyneux took on a very experienced and tough fighter whoo had had a few Proffessional bouts under his belt but Ste didnt let this faze him. "We had prepared very well in the lads fight camps and we knew the jobs at hand"- Dug.
Ste went on to stop his opponent via an almighty wrestling pick up and slam into the cage floor causing his foe to verbally tap out and ensuring Ste now gets a title shot and flyweight.
Danny Suter fought in an ICO English Title Fight for a very nice looking belt. "Danny had prepared well for this opponent as we knew a fair amount about the guy and his style" - Dug.
Dan wanted to showcase his stand up skills in this fight but a quick exchange saw his opponent feel his power and forced the clinch and grapple game. Dan was very comfortable there as his wrestling level is very good. He then controlled the position before landing some crunching knee's and then taking his opponent down only for his opponent to make the same mistake that his last 2 fights had done and that was to give Dan their necks. This ended the fight as Dan won the ICO Light weight Belt with his trade mark Guillotine.

24th April 2011 - 6 out of 6 for Spartan MMA on Cage Control 4

Spartan MMA had another strong turnout at the Cage Control event with 6 of their semi-pro fighters making an appearance. This is Ben Cartlidges take on their fights…

Pete Hatfield vs. Adam Robinson

"Texas" Pete Hatfield was quite clearly bat shit crazy; you could tell by the look in his eyes but he got a few points taken off him in the first round for some wayward strikes to a downed opponent. In the end Robinson struggled to deal with the aggression of his foe and he wilted under a barage of strikes in the first round.

Danny Suter vs. Jake Barrett

Danny Suter impressed me in this one with his grappling. I'd seen him steamroll Ben Braund back at CC3 but he'd come unstuck at Lockdown against another grappler and it's good to see that Spartan had drilled him accordingly. He took the bout with a great guillotine in the first round and showed class in victory which is always good to see.

Alister Hawke vs. Shane Roeton

Another Spartan product who showed good evolution was Alister Hawke who simply had too much on the deck for his foe. Hawke could have landed more in the last as he caught his man with a good body kick but opted to go for a takedown and take a well earned decision victory.

Nick Bradley vs. Jordan Brown

Rematch from Lockdown when Brown took Bradley out with knees but this time Bradley showed a great gameplan by taking his man down and locking on a textbook D'arce choke for a first round win. Very impressive technique and good sportsmanship from Jordan Brown for taking the rematch in the first place.

Jason Scott vs. Ste Molyneux

Jason Scott, for the smallest guy on the card, probably showed some of the craziest heart I've ever seen. He never stopped against Ste Molyneux but, in the end, he was giving up too much weight against a dangerous foe who bullied him from the clinch before submitting him with a nice Kimura/Triangle with only seconds left.

Dave Llewellyn vs. James Woodruffe

Knockout of the night for sure and probably one of the craziest things I've ever seen. Dave Llewellyn looked sharp striking before Woodruffe closed the distance and clinched up. Ever seen a heavyweight with a damaged arm go Urijah Faber with a flying knee and get the KO? Trust me, you've never lived. Crazy, crazy, crazy.

12th March 2011 - Lee Stevens Wins GPUK Title back!

Fight review by Ben Cartlidge:

Harry Izevbigie vs. Lee Stevens
77kg Semi Pro Title Bout

It was the rematch that everyone was waiting for and both fighters were understandably cautious in the opening stages. It was Izevbigie who looked more precise but Stevens landed the decisive takedown in the first round and again took his man to ground in the second. Harry knew he needed a finish in the third and he dropped Stevens like a hot potato with a whistling hook and quickly moved in for the kill. Stevens, to his credit, did well to survive and see the round out and where it's arguable that he finished the fight in worse shape he'd done enough in the eyes of the judges to get the nod and take the belt.
